From The President

Our B Match in July and our Agility Fun Day in August were huge successes!  Each program/meeting brought almost 30 people in attendance with 10-15 terriers in action.    Several new members were accepted at both meetings.

A big THANK YOU goes out to our Match Judge and Club Member, Keith Bates, who did a wonderful job judging the entries.  He made sure all the exhibitors and their exhibits were comfortable and enjoying themselves.  The icing on the cake was after the match, when Mr. Bates placed a dog on the table and explained to the group exactly what a judge is doing during the table examination.  He also gave some important handling tips to the exhibitors.

Another big THANK YOU goes out to Club Member, Norma Lattimore, who instructed the group during the Agility Fun Day.  Ms. Lattimore introduced the novice audience to Agility.  She handily led us through our paces and shared some valuable information regarding training and trial preparation.  It was very evident that she is knowledgeable and experienced in this craft and that she enjoyed what she was doing.   As a result, everyone had a wonderful time.

More THANK YOUs go out to Lisa Manning, Gwen and Rick Darby, George Tibaldi, Betty Stockdale and Jenny Baum for helping with the entries, the set up and tear down.  We couldn’t have done it without you.

Our second annual Terrier Group Specialty Show is right around the corner, September 16th, to be exact.  Lisa Manning and the Show Committee have been working very hard to make sure this show is a success.  Please join us during the lunch break for a very brief business meeting and a complimentary boxed lunch.   Good luck to all the exhibitors!  Many thanks to the Show Committee and to all those who will help out on the day of the show.

Our program for our October meeting is an “Oktoberfest”.  And in November, our program will be “Photos With Santa”.  We need several members to volunteer equipment and grooming talents.  This newsletter has more details.  Please plan to attend and let Sharon Abmeyer know if you can help in any way.

I hope you are as excited as I am about this year’s Holiday Party in December.  Your reservations are needed no later than November 8th.  A reservation form is included with this newsletter.   Please send it in as soon as possible as we need a preliminary headcount.  Thank you, Virginia Nickerson and Gilda Mallik, for the time and expertise you have contributed to make this annual event a very special one.

Election of Specialty Show Judges

In the interest of time and due to contracting requirements, the Board has selected the judges for our next two specialty shows (2005 and 2006).  A new process for election of judges has been defined and approved by the Board for the 2007 show and forward.

This new process will involve the membership and calls for a membership election of the judges.  Club members with “Full Member” status will be able to participate in this process.  Associate members cannot participate in this new process.

To become a member with “Full Member” status, the member must attend two consecutive meetings.  In addition, the member must notify the Membership Coordinator, George Tibaldi, of his/her desire to become a “Full Member” and the dates of the two consecutive meetings that he/she will attend.

We plan to start selection/election for 2007 judges very soon.  If you are an Associate Member and wish to become a Full Member to participate in the selection/election process, contact George Tibaldi as soon as possible at 770-998-8902.  We will have meetings with each of our programs; this includes September 16, October 17 and November 14 as well as the Holiday Party in December.

Breed Referral

Up until this point, the function of “Breed Referral” has been handled by Doug Beard.  Due to rising costs of newspaper and telephone book advertisements, the Board has decided on another way to handle this very important function of our Club.

Starting in October, our Club website will provide a link to an email address or website for breeders who are Club members.  If you want your link included, you must let us know.  Contact our new webmaster, Murray Fife, at Murray@thefifes.com  with your breed and email/website information.

For breeds that are not represented by Club member breeders on the web site, a link to the specific local or national breed club will be provided instead.

Thanks, Doug, for the time and effort you have put in to the Breed Referral program over the years.
